I've only really played Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh. Of the two, I really think Magic is the way to go, especially if you have like 5 stats per dueler card (speed, armor, combo, etc.). One thing to look into that would be very revelant to an SDL card game is "he Legend of the Five Rings" CCG. It's a fuedal themed card game, and I'm pretty sure it's a lot like what you're trying to do here. I've never played it, but I've heard of it. ANyways, google it or wiki it- I'm sure you can get some cool ideas from their setup.

well i googled it + wiki-ed "The Legend of 5 Rings" it is eerily similar to what i am making for SDL:TCG except the win condition, mine have numbers of victories(10 or 20 duels won) their is based on a honor victories or some such thing. i still looking for their combat system which is what i after at this time

I figured it'd be at least one more resource to work from. Every little bit helps.

I'm still pretty sure Magic would be the best basis for now. Pokemon is far too simple a system. Yugioh is a step up, but still simple, and I don't think the flipping mechanic would go over very well (where you can summon face down, and when attacking a face down enemy it flips up and reveals itself). The "play face down" might be a special ability to give specific duelers like ninjas or such, but for the most part, seeing everyting face up will help keep things running smoothly.

Anyways, that's my two cents. Now that my current duel is over, it's time to start looking into making some cards ^__^

so far i think of merging idea of Magic declare attacker(declare a challenge), but use a damage system sort of like Pokemon(reducing loyalty). at end of combat compare loyalty of the duelist from combat the with the most loyalty scores a victory point for the player. if a Duelist was put in the discard pile due to combat the controller of that duelist get victory point. how does that sound?

well im trying pretty hard to have regular people help design the game so questions help me out a lot
